Tall Order

[Chosen excerpt from project portfolio]
The vertical sequence of the tall order is a translation of the figures in the ground. Form is present in the facade pieces, as well the in the space between the pieces. In this way, the original composition is kept while creating spaces of different scales for people to exist in. The overlapping and intersection of layers, a concept found in the collage, was implemented into the facade design by letting the building absorb some of the forms, contrasting the extruded ones. The forms connect at times, however, other times coming to a halt just centimeters from each other. These points of push and pull promote tension and drama, as also seen in the collage. Depth is evident in the tall order, established through the hierarchy of forms that make up the facade. The grid ordering system in the structural system is unifying and resistant to change, while the facade emphasizes the relationship between objects in space. This tower heavily leans on the reading of void and matter. The vertical sequence of the tall order is successful in creating many scales of exterior space, majorly attributed to the frequent change in scale of the facade, as well as the structural system (floors and columns).
